Benefits
Our free membership includes free and discounted access to social and professional events and programs, including our mentoring program. Student members are also eligible to become law student representatives to the Board at the Board's discretion (typically not more than one person per law school). Finally, non-1L student members from law schools in Massachusetts are eligible to apply for our Alexander G. Gray, Jr. Scholarship.
The Board is always looking to improve our support for students and programming. If you have suggestions feel free to reach out to malgbtqbarassoc@gmail.com.
Mentoring Program
The 2025-2026 mentoring program is open for sign-ups for lawyer mentors (here) and students (here) until October 14, 2025. The mentoring program connects students and practitioners, and encourages meetings to discuss strategies for thriving in law school, growing professional networks, bar preparation, internship strategies, job searches, job interviews, and bringing one's authentic self to work, among other topics. Expect quarterly events to encourage connection in addition to informal meet-ups. At least partial reimbursement is available for expenses relating to the mentorship program for both mentors and mentees (here).
The Alexander G. Gray Memorial Scholarship
The Gray Scholarship ($5,000) is awarded by the MA LGBTQ Bar Association each year to a student who has made significant contributions to the the LGBTQ community. The scholarship application is typically released in February, due in April, and awarded at our annual gala in June. Check back for the application in February.

Be enrolled as a second-, third-, or fourth-year law student, or the part-time equivalent, during the relevant academic year and be in good standing at a law school in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts;
-
Attest that they have spent at least $5,000 for financial costs directly related to enrollment in law school; and
-
Be a student member of the Mass. LGBTQ Bar Association
The scholarship fund is managed by the Massachusetts Bar Foundation and donations are appreciated so that we can sustain and hopefully increase this award.
